Tim brown

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

United States

I bring to Tradewater 40 years of experience in carbon programs, environmental policy, hazardous waste cleanup, and pollution prevention. I founded Wabashco in 2008 to develop carbon offset and renewable energy projects in the Midwest, and in 1998, I co-founded the Delta Institute, a nonprofit organization to improve environmental quality and promote community and economic development in the Great Lakes Basin. I ran the Delta Institute’s environmental program, which included a wide range of water quality, pollution prevention, toxic reduction, and carbon sequestration work.

I have worked for a range of environmental organizations in both the private and non-profit sectors, including Clean Sites, ICF, and the Center for the Great Lakes. I was a Dana Meadows Sustainability Leadership Fellow with the Sustainability Institute. I hold a B.S. from Northwestern University. I have held leadership positions on many boards over the years, including the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, Rebuilding Exchange, Delta Institute, and the Alliance for the Great Lakes, among others. I currently serve on the board of the Lochland School.

Gabe Plotkin

Founder & Strategic Advisor

United States

I am a founder of Tradewater and currently serve as Strategic Advisor.

I began working in environmental project development at Wabashco, LLC, after a 12-year career as an attorney. I served first as a staff attorney with the Federal Defender Program for the Northern District of Illinois. I then joined the law firm of Miller Shakman & Beem, a commercial litigation boutique, where I became a partner and served as an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago Law School.

Throughout my career, I have served in various leadership roles in the non-profit world. While in law school, I founded Youth Rights Media, a non-profit in New Haven, Connecticut, dedicated to empowering youth to protect and advance their legal rights, and served on their Board of Directors for close to ten years. I also served for six years on the board of the Rebuilding Exchange, a Chicago non-profit committed to developing a market for the reuse of building materials, including spending four years as Board Chair. I hold a B.A. from Brown University and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Rachel Kanan

Chief Financial Officer

United States

After earning my BA from St. Xavier University, I embarked on my professional journey as an educator. Spending nine years teaching middle school math provided me with valuable experience and insights. However, my passion for numbers led me to transition into bookkeeping for several small businesses.

Seeking to deepen my understanding of finance and accounting, I earned a Masters of Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This educational endeavor, coupled with my hands-on experience supporting various small businesses and my tenure at Tradewater, enabled me to refine my skills and expertise in financial management.

As I progressed in my career, I leveraged my knowledge and proficiency to ascend to the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This journey has been marked by continuous growth and learning, fueled by my unwavering dedication to excellence in finance and accounting.

What captivates me the most about my role is the rich variety of tasks and projects it entails. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities, keeping me engaged and motivated. Whether it’s devising creative solutions to complex problems, collaborating with colleagues from different backgrounds, or navigating unexpected hurdles, I thrive on the dynamic nature of our work environment.

As a recent mother, I am experiencing the world anew through the perspective of my child. We’re delving into adventures together, exploring parks, museums, and zoos during our weekends.

Kirsten Love

Chief Marketing Officer

United States

I joined the Tradewater team in 2019. In my role, I lead the effort around making carbon offset credits available to new markets. This includes not only making carbon credits available to corporations, but also to individual consumers who want to make an impact on climate change. Prior to joining Tradewater, I worked in the Foodservice Industry for a supply chain solutions company. I worked in a number of different functional roles, including account management, promotions and project management, marketing analytics, resource management, and business development strategy. I hold a B.S. degree in Psychology and a B.S. degree in Business and Applied Math from The Illinois Institute of Technology.

Chris Page

Chief Impact Officer

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2024 as the company’s Chief Impact Officer. In this role, I lead the project development teams responsible for finding, controlling, and stopping the emission of potent non-CO2 greenhouse gases, and ensuring the generation of high-quality carbon offset credits. I have a BA from Brown University and a Master’s degree from the Yale School of the Environment.

My career in sustainability has included work with local government, inside two Fortune 500 companies, and in the nonprofit sector. Prior to working with Tradewater, I was Climate Director for the City of Seattle, where I was responsible for the execution of Seattle’s Climate Action Plan. My corporate experience includes Director of Energy and Environment at Amazon and Global Director of Energy and Sustainability Strategy at Yahoo!, where my responsibilities included carbon reduction strategy and renewable energy procurement. I worked at Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), where I helped to build their corporate sustainability consulting practice. I also wrote for Living on Earth, a public radio program on the environment.

Clarissa Balatan

Chief People & Culture Officer

United States

I (she/her) joined Tradewater in 2023, leading the development and implementation of global human resources strategies to support the team’s growth and maximize our impact. I hold a degree in human resources management from Michigan State University and master’s degrees in finance and business administration from Indiana University.

Bringing over 17 years of global human resources and leadership experience from the profit and non-profit sectors, I have served in HR leadership roles supporting international disaster relief, environmental and climate-focused research, and aerospace and defense.

I feel grateful to have an opportunity to work alongside very interesting, thoughtful, (and kind) team members focused on a tangible mission backed by science.

In addition to trying new food spots, I enjoy traveling, reading, spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and whipping up knitted creations.

Katherine
Chavarria Meza

Finance and Administrative
Associate

Costa Rica

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Technical Degree in Accounting. I’ve worked for over 5 years for two environmental companies, attending administrative needs mainly in the area of finance; such as accounting and budget control, and also in the area of human resources, focused on recruitment at a global level.

I like working for a company where the goal is to protect the environment and mitigate climate change. It has always been a pillar in my personal life and being able to apply it to my work with the company is very satisfying. In addition, working with people from different countries and cultures makes the work a fulfilling experience in the the professional but also the personal area.

I like to serve others, so the social care and caring for the planet are some of the pillars that move me in life. Values such as honesty, empathy and solidarity are a big part of me as a human being. I love dancing and exploring in the mountains; both make me feel alive. I enjoy socializing and meeting people around the world, but I also value my alone time and personal space.

Alex
Nedinic

Senior Accountant

United States

I’m an experienced accounting professional with a strong background in financial operations, reporting, and process improvement. In my most recent role, I served as Assistant Controller at Forklift Exchange, where I led monthly close activities, budgeting and forecasting, and supported strategic initiatives, including acquisitions. Over the past decade, I’ve held progressive roles at organizations such as Acrelec Inc., the Illinois Restaurant Association, and the Alzheimer’s Association, developing expertise in general ledger management, ERP implementation, and financial analysis.

What excites me most about working at Tradewater is the company’s mission-driven approach and its real-world impact on climate change. Being part of a team that’s actively working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions aligns with my values and desire to make a positive contribution beyond just financial metrics. I’m particularly inspired by the opportunity to use my financial expertise to support sustainable initiatives and work with others who are passionate about environmental stewardship.

I was born and raised in Chicago, and I’m a proud first-generation American of Serbian descent. My parents immigrated from the former Yugoslavia, and I’ve remained deeply connected to my heritage and the Serbian community. I graduated in 2013 from DePaul University. Outside of work, I play semi-professional soccer, and I enjoy traveling and spending quality time with my family and friends.

María José
Gutiérrez Murray

Senior Director of
International Programs

Costa Rica

I have collaborated as a climate change and sustainability specialist in numerous projects and programs relating to climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas accounting and management, corporate sustainability, and climate policy. For seven years, I was a Technical expert for the Secretariat of the Low Emission Development Strategies Global Platform (LEDS GP) Latin American and Caribbean Regional Platform (LEDS LAC), where I took on various coordinating and advisory roles around climate policy and action. I am also the founder of a consulting company in Costa Rica, R.E. I hold an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica, and a M.S. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.

I enjoy working across the globe to find, collect, and destroy harmful gases, and the tangible impact on climate change prevention this role allows me to have. Collaborating on a daily basis with a group of smart, committed, and passionate colleagues around the world makes this challenging work possible.

I love my country, Costa Rica, and find peace and comfort from climate anxiety in nature, everything water, and in doing purposeful work. I also greatly enjoy board games; a product of my competitive nature that also allows me to enjoy the challenging work we do at Tradewater. I love to travel, in my own country and beyond, seeking adventure and new experiences with my loved ones.

Macarena Alonso

New Developments Manager

Spain

I’m a legal professional with over 10 years of international experience leading cross-functional and multicultural teams across LATAM, EMEA, JAPAC, Canada, and the U.S. Throughout my career, I’ve managed complex projects, built strong stakeholder relationships, and advised on regulatory and contractual matters in both corporate and nonprofit settings, including Google and Accenture. Recently, I’ve focused on environmental initiatives and the voluntary carbon market, where I’ve found a deep sense of purpose working on impactful climate solutions. I’m especially motivated by collaborative work that drives real, measurable change.

What I find most exciting about Tradewater is its mission. It really aligns with my values and the kind of work I want to do. I’m especially drawn to how the team takes real, concrete action to tackle climate change, and how the impact is both measurable and global. I’d love to be part of that effort, contributing with my legal and project management experience to help move things forward. Being part of a team that’s truly making a difference would be incredibly meaningful to me.

I’m Argentinean and Spanish. Outside of work, I love sharing good meals, traveling, reading, practicing yoga, horse riding, and spending time in nature. I’m also a proud mom of twin girls, who are currently 8 months old. I’m naturally curious, enjoy working with others, and care deeply about making a real impact in climate and social justice. I feel most at home in multicultural environments and am always looking to keep learning and growing—both personally and professionally.

Jacqui Joubert

Projects & New
Developments Associate

South Africa

I have a diverse professional background spanning project management, impact measurement, and international relations, with a strong focus on sustainable development. My experience includes developing and implementing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) strategies for both non-profits and for-profits, ensuring that projects align with global sustainability goals. I have worked on global projects, utilising frameworks to measure and enhance the impact of development initiatives. My expertise lies in bridging the gap between strategy and execution, fostering partnerships, and driving measurable outcomes in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Working at Tradewater has given me the opportunity to be part of a team that is responsible for developing and actioning sustainable solutions and strategies to overcome the most pressing challenge our generation faces- climate change.
These solutions I help develop are based on evidence, are scalable and ensure the environmental, social and economic stability for future generations.
Tradewater deeply values innovation, a global team and the opportunity to highlight the diverse skills of the team. This makes the work we do that much more rewarding, impactful and sustainable for me.

I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa where I live with my husband, two dogs and our cat. I am fortunate to live next door to my sister, which means unlimited time spent with my nephew and niece.

On weekends, I can generally be found at my family’s coffee shop chatting to visitors or enjoying the best beans South Africa has to offer. I am surrounded by an amazing community to family and friends, and we often explore the scenic beauty our country has to offer!

I am completing a doctoral degree, examining the ways in which blockchain technology can be harnessed by social enterprises across the globe to enhance their operations.

Meg thode

Projects & New
Developments Associate

Spain

With a background in global health and international development, I bring diverse experience spanning public health research, local government, community organizing, environmental activism, and project development. Currently, as Projects & New Development Associate at Tradewater, I lead efforts to identify, develop, and implement projects that prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. Previously, I developed impact frameworks and reporting for pioneering sustainability funds and designed strategies that promoted equity and circularity. I am committed to systems thinking and creating environments that “lower the activation energy” for sustainable action, helping to drive impactful solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

I love working in an international, multicultural environment where curiosity is promoted and there’s no shortage of things to learn. As a bookworm and total nerd, I’m able to delve deep into topics like environmental law in the countries where Tradewater operates, the specifics of refrigerant gas, or the customs and cultural norms of colleagues and partners around the world. This role satisfies my innate curiosity, and the quantifiable, positive environmental impact that Tradewater creates is the cherry on top!

I’m originally from Southern California but have also lived in Boston and Washington, D.C. I’ve found a home-away-from-home in Madrid, Spain, where I’ve lived for the last five years. Tradewater’s fully remote work policy allows me to continue traveling and exploring the world — I’ve been to more countries than I am years old and am always on the lookout for my next adventure!

I also love baking, embroidery, and have recently embraced my inner senior citizen with paint-by-number activities.

Hasit trivedi

I believe in making positive changes for society and the environment through my skills and knowledge. I also enjoy cooking, writing poems, playing the flute, and listening to audiobooks.

Osamah alnakhebi

Projects & New
Developments Associate

Saudi Arabia

I joined Tradewater in 2024 as Projects and New Developments Associate. My responsibilities consist of finding, collecting, and destroying ozone-depleting substances and GHGs from the MENA Region. I hold a master’s degree in engineering management and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate from Arizona State University, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Before joining Tradewater, I worked as an Engineering Development Manager at Carrier Corporation for more than 9 years, where I led cross-functional teams to launch innovative products and implemented best practices in project management methodologies.

My ultimate motivation is to educate the public and industry about the critical importance of protecting the ozone layer and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By emphasizing the dangers of ODS and the benefits of their destruction, I aim to inspire proactive environmental action. Outside of work, I enjoy watching movies and listening to podcasts.

Clara cherfils

Projects & New
Developments Associate

Portugal

I joined Tradewater’s international team in 2024, and I am responsible for overseeing and supporting worldwide projects regarding the identification, collection, and destruction of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases.

Born in France, I have both an academic and professional international background. I hold a Master of Science in Global Business and Sustainability from the Rotterdam School of Management, Netherlands, and studied International Business Administration. I bring experience from my roles in international sales, account management, and project management within tech and sustainability-focused sectors in France, Australia, and Singapore.

I spent several years in Australia working as a Project Manager and Sales Manager for a French sports-tech company. I then returned to Europe, where I worked as a Business Development Manager for a Singaporean green biotechnology firm, leading market expansion for their innovative waste conversion technology across Europe. Passionate about driving positive change, I am actively involved with a Portuguese NGO developing and facilitating climate education workshops for Portuguese companies and the general public.

I view Tradewater as the ideal blend of purpose and mission, where I can contribute to making a tangible positive impact in the world.

Outside of my professional pursuits, I am an avid nature and outdoor sports enthusiast. I enjoy surfing, kitesurfing, and running, and I teach Vinyasa yoga in Portugal.

Nicholas Cade

Senior Director of Supply Team Partnerships & Operations

United States

I have been with Tradewater since 2020. Prior to joining Tradewater, I worked as an attorney for several years in both private practice and as an active duty service-member in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps. Before law school, I taught middle school social studies in Brooklyn, NY as a Teach For America corps member. I hold a B.A. in both History and Government from Colby College, an M.S. for Teachers from Pace University, and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

I am thrilled to be a part of a mission-driven organization operating on the front lines in the fight against climate change. I’ve been a part of several project types at Tradewater and have always been motivated by the tangible, measurable impact of Tradewater’s projects, appreciating the moment when thousands of pounds of harmful refrigerants are permanently destroyed, or when an orphaned oil or gas well leaking methane is plugged. I’m excited by Tradewater’s ambitious drive to scale its work and to make meaningful impact to curb temperature rise.

I continue to serve in the Navy JAG Corps as a commander in the Navy Reserve, and I like to stay involved in my community through various civic and volunteer organizations. I am an avid reader, a proud Chicagoan, and a happily busy father of three young children.

Ana Fernández

Logistics Associate

Spain

I studied International Trade and specialized in Logistics, earning a Master’s degree in Supply Chain. With a strong interest in human resources, I also completed a Master’s in Leadership and Team Management. Since 2015, I have worked in Logistics and Supply Chain across various markets, including automotive and chemical-pharmaceutical. My diverse experience has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
Tradewater has a strong and solid purpose as a company: to give us the opportunity to make the world a better place. These goals, which allow us to contribute our part each day, greatly inspire my daily work.
I am a curious and driven individual, always eager to learn something new. I cherish my Argentine culture and carry it with me wherever I go, making me feel at home no matter where I am. In my free time, I enjoy running in the countryside to breathe fresh air and admire nature, as well as spending time with family and friends. Additionally, I am a professional makeup artist.

Damaris Vergara

Logistics Associate

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2025 as a Logistics Associate, where I help coordinate the transportation of materials for projects that prevent the release of harmful refrigerants and methane gases. I work closely with logistics partners to ensure shipments are handled efficiently and in compliance with regulations.

Before joining Tradewater, I gained experience in supply chain management and international logistics, including import/export operations and shipment coordination. I also served in the U.S. Army as a 92A Automated Logistical Specialist, where I managed procurement, inventory, and motor pool operations.

Passionate about logistics and supply chain efficiency, I enjoy finding innovative ways to improve operational workflows and ensure seamless transportation processes. I take pride in contributing to a mission-driven organization like Tradewater, where sustainability and logistics intersect to create a meaningful impact.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active, exploring new places, and learning more about logistics and sustainability.

Carl
Thorne-Thomsen

Director of
Market Development

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2024 and am responsible for the sale of Tradewater’s carbon offset credits, as well as helping find new ways to scale the company’s impact by creating demand for Tradewater’s projects. Before joining Tradewater, I served as a high school math teacher and school administrator with the Teach for America program in Dallas, TX. Then I earned an M.B.A. from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, where I focused on social impact entrepreneurship. Most recently, I held multiple product and market development leadership roles at the student success ed-tech company Civitas Learning.

I’m so excited to get to wake up every day and support people (and their organizations) in being a meaningful part of the climate solution.

Outside work, I help manage my family’s 500-acre wilderness ranch deep in the Texas Hill Country, where I first developed a passion for ecology, land stewardship and regeneration, and where I decided to commit my career to climate. I’m a Texas Master Naturalist, an advisor to several local Austin climate nonprofits, and when not working, you can probably find me out near the creek trying to find salamanders, or up on a hilltop looking for birds.

Jenny Morgan

Senior
Market Development Manager

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2022. In my role, I partner with organizations to help achieve carbon neutrality through sustainability consultation, emissions reduction, and the purchase of carbon credits. I operate under the belief that our most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone – it requires a collective effort. I am passionate in changing the way we view business and industry to be both profitable and purposeful. Prior to joining Tradewater, I worked within the technology and hospitality sectors, and I bring 15+ years of experience in Business Operations, Market Development, Events, and Community Engagement.
First and foremost, I’ve always wanted to be closely associated with a B Corp. The certification is proof of an organization’s commitment to embody impact in every way possible and have a desire for continuous improvement. Secondly, when I was making the decision on what climate action I should prioritize, I was excited about Tradewater’s climate solutions specifically, since they are highly measurable, impactful, and the benefits are immediate. My hospitality background exposes myself a bit there because I resonate with solutions that are similar to dropping the restaurant bill and moving on to the next customer. We call that an “emergency brake solution” in the climate space.

Outside of work, my favorite things to do include spending time with her family and friends hiking, running, swimming, and planning themed celebrations. I am always looking to push myself, try something new, or find areas where I can learn, grow, and progress. I have been like that since I was little, and I am still like that now.

Eli Etzioni

Partnerships Manager

United States

I bring six years of experience in fundraising, partnerships, and commercialization of new climate technologies. Prior to Tradewater, I was the first business hire at Symbrosia, a climate-tech startup developing a seaweed feed additive to drastically reduce methane emissions in cow burps. At Symbrosia, I found the first two early adopters (Neutral Foods and Organic Valley) and managed the relationships with them, through the planning and execution of pilot trials. I also built relationships with multinational distributors, developed Symbrosia’s first carbon project on the Verra registry, and worked closely with the CEO to help Symbrosia raise a $7M funding round. Before Symbrosia, I did business development at Elexity, a cleantech startup building AI software to help commercial buildings save energy, and also worked at Fast Forward, an accelerator for nonprofit technology startups, where I helped manage partnerships with large corporations including Google, BlackRock, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

My favorite thing about working at Tradewater is getting to be part of a team with a relentless focus on making permanent, immediate, and scalable climate impact. I love that Tradewater implements readily available solutions which are highly recommended by Project Drawdown. I am so grateful and motivated to work every day to tell stories and share data on what Tradewater is doing. I get to educate and inspire people to support the mitigation of the world’s most potent greenhouse gases, and create real hope that radical emissions reduction is possible.

My passion is scaling climate impact and getting people off the sidelines and into the climate movement. I am equal parts climate optimist and outdoor enthusiast. I can often be found thinking about sustainable aquaculture while surfing or pondering climate-friendly transit options while biking.

Beau Garrett

Special Projects Manager

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2019 and am currently focused on providing technical, market, and policy research to support our sales pipeline and innovation concepts. I hold a BS/MS in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University and am a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois. Prior to joining Tradewater, I managed sustainability projects for large, complex buildings with Delta Institute, and helped hundreds of commercial buildings achieve LEED and ENERGY STAR certifications and city ordinance compliance while at Goby (Conservice).
I love Tradewater’s collaborative spirit and the fact that I’ve been able to work with almost everyone at the company at some point or another. We will only solve the climate crisis if we work together. I also enjoy the creative problem solving that the work entails, whether it’s arguing for amendments to the various carbon protocols that enable our work or developing economic models to support new ventures. Tradewater has also proven to be a very supportive workplace and my supervisors have been phenomenal to work with and learn from.
My main hobbies are golf, DJing and international travel. In 2019 I co-founded REVIVEcollective, a creative community that is now based in multiple cities. My passion for DJing house and techno music has led me to connect with people all over the world and has enabled me to play in many Chicago venues as well as Lviv, Ukraine and Mexico City.

Zack Henderson

Market Development Innovation Manager

United States

I joined the Tradewater team in 2025 to help bring Tradewater’s carbon offsets to new sectors and markets, using insights and novel product concepts to develop compelling value propositions. Before Tradewater, I spent nearly ten years working in global health and development consulting, with extensive experience in strategy-setting and market analysis around critical topics such as immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, and climate change for leading foundations, non-profits, and the private sector. I have also worked in the high-growth technology sector at both Tableau and Chime, where I helped design new product offerings and customer experiences. I hold a B.A. in Finance from the University of Washington.

I am determined to help accelerate climate action as a means of promoting equitable health outcomes, economic prosperity, and a sustainable relationship with the natural world.

I am drawn to the fight against climate change by my love for the mountains and forests around my home in the Pacific Northwest. I’m a lifelong mountain biker as well as a skier, snowboarder, backpacker, and avid traveler — when I’m not at my desk, I’m probably off in the woods somewhere.

Meg Baltes

Market Development Associate

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2025, where I focus on building relationships with potential customers and partners to promote Tradewater’s greenhouse gas mitigation projects. With a bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Science, and Society from McGill University and a minor in International Development, I have a strong foundation in sustainable systems to my role. In my career, I have experience working in community solar, net-zero strategies, emissions reporting, and scope three analysis.

Before joining Tradewater, I spent four years in Montreal working on sustainable food systems, collaborating with local organizations to divert food waste to those in need. During this time, I also served as Vice President of Operations and Sustainability for the Students’ Society of McGill University, where I oversaw business operations, managed a $4-million budget, and championed sustainability initiatives across the campus.

My passion for resource efficiency resonates with Tradewater’s commitment to immediate, measurable climate action. I see Tradewater as a unique opportunity to act now in the climate space and get to work building a more resilient global community.

When not working, you can find me traveling, spending time with loved ones, or trying new recipes in the kitchen!

I joined the Tradewater team in 2024 as the Director of Marcom. In this role, I lead the integrated marketing communications strategy to build Tradewater’s brand presence while driving interest in high-quality carbon offsets for companies and individuals.

With over 20 years of experience, I have been instrumental in advancing companies’ missions in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, spanning industries from animal health to technology. I began my career in advertising before transitioning to the client side, developing extensive experience in evolving organizational capabilities across marketing channels. My achievements include my company being awarded a DOE housing innovation award for zero energy ready homes (ZERH) and helping develop a youth-based cultural intelligence (CQ) assessment that demonstrated the value of student travel.

I bring a strong global perspective to this role, having lived in four countries on three continents, and serving as a Merck Fellow in Tanzania, where my team developed a sustainable business model for preventable blindness.

A strong proponent of the unique ability of mission-driven companies to make a positive impact in the world, I’m excited to work at a B-Corp dedicated to providing climate solutions.

Outside of work, I enjoy living in the mountains of western North Carolina with my partner, three dogs, and one cat. I am frequently hiking and exploring along the backroads throughout the Southeast. I have become known among my friends for the many photographs of the black bear family that seem to enjoy my wildflower garden as much as I does.

Marketing Manager

United States

Merging a BFA in visual communications with an MA in international psychology in global communication and sustainability, my education has led me to a diverse portfolio containing more than ten years of brand marketing experience. I am dedicated to advocating for humanitarian and environmental causes, which has allowed me to support programs worldwide by developing growth strategies and leading creative direction for mission-driven organizations looking to increase their impact.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of an organization dedicated to innovating real solutions to stop climate change and having the chance to work alongside others who share the same passions. Taking on a problem as big as this is definitely not easy, but the work being done at Tradewater has such an immediate and measurable impact that I feel like I’m actually helping to make a difference for the planet and all those who inhabit it.
I try to be outdoors as much as I can! If I’m not working in my garden beds, I’m caring for my indoor garden of 200+ houseplants. Otherwise, I like to hang out with my friends and see live music, walk around a museum, or find new antique shops to explore.

rios-maldonado

Digital Marketing Strategist

United States

I (she/her) am a Digital Marketing Strategist at Tradewater, specializing in the digital marketing strategy for the US Halocarbon Program along with other Tradewater brand deliverables. I joined Tradewater in 2020 as an Environmental Program Associate and was later promoted to Manager of Program Implementation, where I led a small team and managed the sourcing of refrigerants and halons across the US. I hold a Master of Public Health in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

I enjoy using my environmental health studies background and my passion for equity and justice to develop a career in the fight against climate change. Though I hadn’t originally imagined I would be working in this niche sector of the climate movement, I have enjoyed working at a company with equally passionate people from diverse backgrounds all working toward a shared goal. The collaborative environment at Tradewater and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the planet have only deepened my commitment to this vital work.

I live in Chicago, IL with my partner and our two cats, Miso and Matcha. In my free time, you can find me biking along the lakeshore trail, diving into a good book, or discovering new pizza spots around town.

JosuÉ Segura
Amador

Communication Strategist

Costa Rica

I studied Communication Sciences at the University of Costa Rica, and have degrees in both Social Communication and Advertisement. Before coming to Tradewater, I worked as an assistant at Canal 15, a television channel at my University. I also participated in social campaigns dedicated to supporting the “ngäbe,” an indigenous group in the south of Costa Rica.

Tradewater’s mission is my main motivation to do my work. Having a real, tangible, positive impact on the world has always been vital to me, and Tradewater allows me to do so, while working alongside professionals with the same mindset.

When I’m not working to save the planet, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and finding new spots to eat.

Daniel Baker

Technical Content Writer

United States

I have been Tradewater’s Technical Content Writer since April 2025. In this role I’m responsible for crafting Tradewater’s story across all digital mediums — sharing the cascading benefits of Tradewater’s unique efforts to destroy harmful refrigerants and permanently reduce methane (and other GHG) emissions.

With more than 14 years of professional communications experience, I have helped launch multiple national broadcast channels, for both radio and TV, and have built communications plans for a variety of nonprofit and private sector organizations. Switching careers 5 years ago, I now work on solving the world’s most intractable problem; helping adapt to and mitigate the harms of climate change.

Before joining Tradewater, I created and managed the public image of the World Resource Institute’s Climate Solutions Partnership as well as other research projects for WRI’s Business Center; working on the global clean energy transition, supply chain resiliency, nature-based solutions, carbon markets, and more. I earned my MPA in Environmental Policy Management & Law from the University of Colorado Denver in 2022. I earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Maryland in 2012 (go Terps!).

I live in Bethesda, MD with my wife and our handsome dog, Harley. My travels have taken me to 30 countries in 35 years and I hope to hit 50 by 50. Wherever I am, I love to hike, ski, bike, backpack, and take advantage of all Earth’s natural beauty…and eat as much ice cream as possible.

Cassandra
Whitford

Senior Manager, Methane Program

United States

Prior to joining Tradewater, I worked as an engineer at MSA Safety, designing combustible gas sensors used in portable safety devices to detect methane and other flammable gases. I hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University at Buffalo. During my time at Northwestern, I spent five years developing and testing catalysts for sustainable chemical reactions relevant to the renewable energy industry.

I’m passionate about making a tangible impact on climate change. I enjoy getting to see climate solutions through from start to finish—from working in the field directly with sources of potent greenhouse gases to designing and implementing solutions to prevent these gases from getting into the atmosphere.

Outside of work, I love live music, hiking, and biking around Chicago. I’ve spent eight years volunteering at a local animal shelter, socializing cats and matching them with their perfect adopters.

Georgia Sparks

Senior R&D Associate

United States

I bring experience in research, project management, and advocacy to Tradewater. At the Earth Institute, I researched the relationship between well-being and access to greenspace. I served as an Immigration Advocate at Her Justice, a nonprofit that provides free assistance in family and immigration law to women in New York City. I also conducted elections research at BallotReady, a company that informs voters on every race and measure on their ballot. I received a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Barnard College in 2021.

Two things. First, the people: I’m grateful for my coworkers on the Methane team (and beyond). They are smart, dedicated, and always know how to make me laugh. Second, I appreciate the challenging, diverse projects I’m exposed to at Tradewater. I’ve had the opportunity to help launch new initiatives, build a data management system, and shape our strategy to plug as many leaking orphaned oil and gas wells as possible. I particularly enjoy engaging with state officials and building relationships with landowners. Climate change is a big, scary problem but seeing the implementation of climate solutions firsthand has given me hope.

I grew up on an organic farm in Vermont and have loved animals and nature ever since. I enjoy learning languages and speak fluent Spanish. After college, I lived in Madrid, Spain, where I worked as an au pair. I recently relocated from New York City to San Francisco and am excited to explore the West Coast. My greatest joy in life is music—whether it’s seeing concerts, playing piano and guitar, or curating playlists for family and friends. In my free time, I also love bouldering and playing cards.

Kapilan
Tamilselvan

Environmental Project Manager

United States

Before starting with Tradewater in 2024, I worked in the energy industry in Houston, TX for five years. I have honed my skills in cross-functional collaboration, developing deep relationships with stakeholders, managing projects and product development for global markets, and operationalizing product strategy. I’m a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a proud University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Mechanical Engineering alum.

First, I love the smart, driven, entrepreneurial people I work with daily who are committed to helping reduce global emissions. Second, I love the fact that at the end of a project, I can quantify the positive climate impact that our team and I had on the planet and every living organism in it. Third, I love navigating and solving challenges that arise while navigating a new project type and new climate financing mechanism. Lastly, I love the many different hats I get to wear in a matter days. I feel lucky and privileged to get to do this important work with an amazing team!

I’m a Climatebase fellow, a Climate Reality Leader, a founding board member of a mission-based run club, and an avid biker. I am all about community and have helped raise over $10,000 in funds for summer camps and holiday gatherings for underrepresented kids and their families. In 2022, I biked 165 miles to raise over $1000 for Multiple Sclerosis research! On a rainy day, you can find me with a good book in the company of my partner and our cat.

Beverly Yang

Environmental
Project Associate

United States

Prior to joining Tradewater, I worked as a business analyst examining the effectiveness of financial projects. I also spent two years as a research assistant at the Earth Institute, analyzing economic and sustainability policies and programs in China. I have experience working on climate finance projects in developing countries, as well as in business and data analysis, mass communication, and digital marketing.

I enjoy the dynamics of a small team with the ability to work on various different projects at the same time. I value the experience to speak with different landowners to help make a real climate difference. I also get the opportunity to expand my knowledge and vision across technical, analysis, and research fields.

I recently became a “pawrent” for the first time. I enjoy baking and experimenting with different recipes. I’m also trying to learn more about wine during my free time.

Safira Andriani

Environmental Project Manager

United States

I joined Tradewater in 2025 as an Environmental Project Manager, where I leverage my oil and gas field expertise to support the company’s mission to eliminate methane emissions from orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells. Before joining Tradewater, I spent over five years in the oil and gas field services industry, working offshore on drilling operations and later managing multi-rig projects across Indonesia. At Tradewater, I bring this technical foundation to methane mitigation efforts—helping to identify, assess, and close high-impact wells across the U.S., and turning these efforts into high-quality, verifiable carbon credits.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology. My experience in sustainability includes GHG accounting, life cycle analysis, and utility-scale solar and storage project development.

Outside of my work in climate and energy, I am deeply passionate about the outdoors. I enjoy playing tennis, exploring marine life through scuba and free diving, and spending time in nature—whether hiking through the forest or soaking in a quiet sunrise. My adventurous spirit and curiosity for the natural world fuel my commitment to environmental action and sustainability.

Jeanne Van Slambrouck

Methane Field Operations Manager

United States

I graduated from Tufts University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After college, I worked in the energy industry for 17 years, primarily in operations as an engineer and field supervisor. Throughout my career I had the opportunity to work on several large scale projects focused on increasing facility integrity, reducing carbon footprint and the potential for environmental impacts. In early 2024 I stepped away from that career to spend time with family and evaluate my next career path.

Living in the west, its impossible to ignore the impact of climate change on our forests and rivers. Although I was fortunate to have many opportunities to reduce carbon footprint in my prior career, I am excited to step in to a role that allows me to focus entirely on reducing emissions. I’m looking forward to joining a small team of individuals focused on building an impactful program that’s addressing a widespread issue.

I live in Colorado with my husband and elderly pup Lily. In the summer of 2024 I hiked the Colorado Trail with my father and sister (my husband, mother and Lily met us several times along the way for support). I enjoy exploring Colorado hiking, backpacking, paddleboarding and running. If I’m inside, I’ll be reading (mostly sci fi) or knitting.
