Launch methane & HFC methodologies to enhance carbon credit integrity and impact
- September 18, 2025

Chicago, IL — September 18, 2025 — oneshot.earth recently unveiled two high-integrity methodologies from Tradewater on its Open Carbon Protocol (OCP) to strengthen trust in voluntary carbon markets and accelerate financing for immediate, measurable, scalable climate action. oneshot’s OCP offers a flexible, collaborative alternative to traditional registries, advancing projects that drive planetary-scale carbon reductions while giving buyers the transparency they need to assess risk with confidence.
Tradewater’s efforts target super pollutants—potent non-CO2 gases responsible for nearly half of human-caused warming—to deliver faster, more cost-effective climate impact than carbon reductions alone. Combining CO2 and super pollutant mitigation can provide up to seven times the temperature benefit by 2050, making it essential to any credible net-zero pathway.
“Our goal is clear: bend the curve on global warming now by permanently eliminating super pollutants and delivering trusted, measurable climate impact,” said Tim Brown, CEO of Tradewater. “With these new methodologies, we will help companies turn overlooked emissions into immediate, scalable results that slow climate change today and complement long-term carbon strategies.”
The Open Carbon Protocol’s Expert Panel approved Tradewater’s methane “Plugging Orphaned Oil and Gas Wells” and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) “Destruction from Household Appliances” methodologies, providing rigorous tools for accounting, verification, and reporting of carbon removal and emissions reductions. These solutions deliver high-integrity, low-risk credits and offer like-for-like offsets that directly align with company value chains across sectors—from data centers to food producers.
Tradewater is developing multiple projects and plans to deliver credits from each methodology this year. Highlights include:
- Rigorous, Science-Based Standards: Each methodology incorporates the latest climate science, standardized baselines, and protocols to ensure emissions removal, reduction, or avoidance metrics are credible, additional, and verifiable.
- Enhanced Transparency and Traceability: The frameworks require meticulous documentation and monitoring, reducing ambiguity, supporting robust due diligence, and enabling clearer communication of results across value chains.
- Designed for Speed and Impact: These methodologies are intentionally narrow to ensure additionality and built for rapid impact—reviewed and refined on a scale of weeks, with annual cycles to keep them relevant and up to date.
“Clarity and rigor are key to restoring trust in carbon removal markets,” said Thomas Annicq, CEO and Co-Founder of oneshot.earth. “These methodologies set a new standard for delivering reliable, high-integrity climate impact.”

About Tradewater
A certified B Corp, Tradewater directly combats climate change by identifying, collecting, and eliminating the release of non-CO2 super pollutants—including halocarbons from old refrigerants, halon gasses from canisters, and methane from actively leaking oil and gas wells. These critical environmental actions generate high-quality carbon offset credits. Since 2012, we’ve eliminated over 10.5 million tons of CO2 equivalent and expect to prevent at least 30 million tons by 2030—similar to removing nearly 7 million gas-powered cars from U.S. roads. Every Tradewater credit is backed by rigorous third-party verification and issued by leading registries to ensure maximum integrity, additionality, and accuracy. Learn more at www.tradewater.co.

About one.earth
oneshot.earth is committed to the single-minded focus of bending the emissions curve faster. We believe that with proper diligence, carbon assets can represent meaningful climate impacts. Our Open Carbon Protocol is a flexible and collaborative registry that allows project developers, experts, and stakeholders in the voluntary carbon market to create new methodologies and projects that evolve with the science and the market, financing planetary-scale carbon reductions and removals, and providing the right information that buyers need to make informed risk assessments.
