Tradewater Delivers Immediate Climate Impact by Eliminating 10M+ Tons of CO₂e

Tradewater delivers immediate climate impact

by eliminating 10M+ tons of CO₂e and permanently destroying super pollutants to achieve measurable, lasting results

Chicago, IL — October 28, 2025 — Tradewater, a global leader in capturing and destroying super pollutants, has achieved a significant milestone by permanently eliminating 10.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e). By neutralizing the world’s most potent non-CO₂ greenhouse gases, the company has delivered immediate, measurable climate impact—equivalent to taking 2.5 million gas-powered cars off U.S. roads.

“We built Tradewater to tackle solvable pieces of the climate puzzle with the highest impact,” said Co-founder and CEO, Tim Brown. “This milestone proves what’s possible when you focus on real, permanent results. Each ton of CO₂e we eliminate represents not just avoided emissions, but a cleaner, safer future within reach today.”

Since 2016, Tradewater has recovered and destroyed halocarbons—from refrigerants in old appliances to excess halon in canisters—across garages, warehouses, and industrial sites worldwide. Today, the company also plugs actively leaking orphaned oil and gas wells across the U.S., preventing potent methane emissions. Tradewater funds these efforts through high-quality, verifiable carbon offset projects, turning overlooked emissions into immediate, scalable climate impact.

Working with local organizations, businesses, and governments in more than 30 countries, Tradewater has built a verified track record of durable, measurable emission reductions that exceed traditional offset approaches. Key projects include:

  • Thailand partnership: Worked with Thailand’s Customs Department and Waste Management Siam to collect and destroy over 120,000 kg of seized ozone-depleting refrigerants, avoiding more than 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂e.
  • Workday collaboration: In 2024, Workday became one of the first corporations to make a commitment and significant investment in the prevention of methane emissions from leaking orphaned oil and gas wells in partnership with Tradewater, preventing over 200,000 metric tons of methane emissions over four years.

Tradewater targets the most climate-damaging gases on the planet—thousands of times more potent than CO₂—and ensures their safe, irreversible destruction. Looking ahead, the company aims to prevent an additional 20 million tons of CO₂e by 2030, helping organizations achieve their climate goals through credible, high-integrity action.

About Tradewater

A certified B Corp, Tradewater directly combats climate change by identifying, collecting, and eliminating the release of non-CO₂ super pollutants—including halocarbons from old refrigerants, excess halon gasses from canisters, and methane from actively leaking oil and gas wells. These critical environmental actions generate high-quality carbon offset credits. Since 2012, we’ve eliminated over 10.6 million tons of CO₂ equivalent and expect to prevent at least 30 million tons by 2030—similar to removing nearly 7 million gas-powered cars from U.S. roads. Every Tradewater credit is backed by rigorous third-party verification and issued by leading registries to ensure maximum integrity, additionality, and accuracy. Learn more at www.tradewater.co.
